The INCLEN Trust Formation

Twenty years after its founding by The Rockefeller Foundation, INCLEN is undertaking major changes in its governance and organization. Central to those changes is the principle that an organization that is dedicated to the improvement of health in the developing world is appropriately guided by leaders from the developing world.

The INCLEN Trust ...

... was formally established in October 2000 as a not-for-profit organization registered in Manila, the Philippines, with close ties with its predecessor, INCLEN, Inc., which was incorporated in the United States in 1989. The Trust currently has 7 regional Clinical Epidemiology Networks (CLENs), all of which are represented in the INCLEN Board of Trustees.

INCLEN has a membership of over 500 health practitioners, most of whom are trained to a master’s degree level in clinical epidemiology or related disciplines. They are based at 69 medical schools spread across 30 countries worldwide.

Through these indigenous scientists in the developing world and through health leadership development, the Trust will promote innovations in research capacity strengthening, greater responsiveness to local and national research priorities, better links to health policy and action, and better dissemination and application of the best evidence to improve health and health care.
