RESEARCH
HIGHER DEGREES
|
|
| |
Master
of Medical Science (Community Medicine and
Clinical Epidemiology)
Doctor of Philosophy (Community Medicine and
Clinical Epidemiology)
|
|
| |
Under
Research Higher degree arrangements, administered
by the Research Higher Degrees section of the
University's Research Branch, candidates select
their own research topic and work closely with
an academic supervisor to produce a thesis that
is examined by two external examiners (Masters
award) or three external examiners (Doctoral
award).
Research may
be undertaken in the areas of Aboriginal Health
Studies, Behavioural Science in Relation to
Medicine, Clinical Epidemiology, Clinical
Pharmacology, Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology,
Biostatistics, Health Social Science, Health
Promotion, Quality Improvement and related
disciplines under the supervision of School
of Medical Practice and Population Health's
academic staff. A listing of School academic
staff, as well as their research interests
can be obtained by contacting the postgraduate
Education Office on edoffice@cceb.newcastle.edu.au.
In order to
build a sound foundation for higher research,
it is suggested that candidates consider enrolment
in 30 to 40 units of appropriate coursework.
This should be discussed with the candidates
intended supervisor, and may form part of
the Masters or PhD application. The development
of epidemiological and research skills from
this coursework will prove beneficial for
research.
