Training Center Profile
 
  The Thai Clinical Epidemiology Research and Training Center (Thai CERTC) Consortium since its inception in 1992 is a network of faculties from 3 Clinical Epidemiology Units (CEUs) in Thailand, namely Siriraj Hospital-Mahidol University, Khon Kaen University and Chulalongkorn University. It was established with a generous support from the Rockefeller Foundation.
 
       
       
 
Core Curriculum
 
  The course starts in June and lasts for 24 months. It is divided into a 9-month coursework followed by 15 months thesis preparation and execution. The total credit hours for the 2-year course is 48 and it consists 16 credits compulsory core subjects, 14 credits specialized area subjects and 18 credits for Thesis.  
       
       
 
Courses
 
  The core subjects are Computer in Medical Research, Critical Appraisal of evidences, Research Methodology I and II, Social Sciences and Measurement in Health I and II, Biostatistics in Clinical Research, Clinical Economics, Research Protocol Design and Thesis.

 
       
 
Learning Style and Experience
 
  The modes of learning accentuates on lectures, small group tutorials, small group discussions, distance learning, work assignments and presentations. All teaching materials and modes of learning are in English.

Each student is assigned a faculty preceptor from Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University or Khon Kaen University or Chulalongkorn University. A preceptor is selected on the basis of the student’s interests and the preceptor’s expertise and students are allowed to participate in the preceptor selection process.

 
       
       
 
Evaluation
 
  Each student must 1) at least attend 80% of all written/assignment coursework which are reviewed by faculty for feedbacks, 2) present a paper on all core subjects in the presence of faculty members and external evaluators and 3) write and defend a research proposal intended to be his/her thesis. A thesis is submitted to the Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University for evaluation and a master degree approval.

A fellow should receive at least an average grade of "B" to be eligible for a Master Degree.

 
       
       
 
Pre-requisite for Applicants
 
  The International Course for a Master of Science Program in Health Development (Clinical Epidemiology) is a multi-disciplinary program that accepts students from a wide range of backgrounds related to health care. However, physicians in medical schools are of highest priority. The key requirements for entry are:
  • A permanent post in the health care institutions
  • A degreee in the medicine or related disciplines
  • Good spoken and written English language skills

Such proficiency in English should be evidenced by achieving the corresponding scores of at least: 500 for TOEFL, 5.0 for IELT, 60 for CUTHEP or by passing the English proficiency test from Chulalongkorn University Academic Testing Center.

 
     
       
 
Course Fee
 
  The total tuition fees is approximately 6,000 US$ per year. The fees for the 2nd year could be however lesser depending on the fellow’s research project.

The approximate costs for living allowance in Bangkok is 600 US$ per month, and for health insurance, 150 US$ per year.

  Interested applicants should contact the secretary office for further information and to secure application form. The completed application form and required documents must be received by the secretary office at least 6 months prior to commencement of the course or no later than December 1.
